What affects the cost of replacing a fuse box?
The cost mainly depends on the size of the existing distribution board, the number of circuits and whether the supply cable, protection devices or additional components need to be adapted.
Size & number of circuits
The more circuits, RCDs, circuit breakers and spare capacity are required, the larger the distribution board will be — and the higher the material and labour effort.
Existing setup, supply cable & condition
It is important to check whether the existing supply cable, earthing, labelling and cable routing can still be used safely, or whether additional adjustments are needed during the replacement.
Future extensions
If you are planning an EV charger, PV system, heat pump, air conditioning, a new kitchen or smart home features, the new distribution board should be prepared for those future requirements.
For a first estimate, photos of the existing fuse box, the meter area and any previous inspection reports or electrical plans are very helpful. For work charged on a time-and-material basis, labour is billed at €50 per half hour excl. VAT; materials are calculated separately depending on the components required.
Get your fuse box assessed
Send us a photo of your existing fuse box and a short description of what you are planning. This allows us to assess whether a simple replacement is likely to be enough, or whether the supply cable, meter area, circuits or future extensions should also be considered.

How does a fuse box replacement in Vienna work?
Replacing a fuse box is not just about installing a new cabinet. The first step is to understand the existing electrical setup, so the new distribution board fits the property, the actual usage and possible future extensions.
1. Request with photos
You send us photos of the existing fuse box and briefly describe why you are planning the replacement — for example renovation, unclear circuits, an electrical inspection, a remodel or preparation for new equipment.
2. Technical first assessment
We check whether the work is likely to be a simple replacement, an upgrade or a more extensive adaptation of the electrical system. We also look at the supply cable, protection devices, available space and existing documentation.
3. Planning and coordination
Before the work starts, we define which components are needed, how the circuits should be structured and whether future topics such as an EV charger, PV system, heat pump, kitchen or smart home should be prepared.
4. Replacement, testing and documentation
The distribution board is replaced professionally, clearly labelled and tested. After completion, you receive a clear explanation of what was done and which points may still be relevant.
What is typically included in a wallbox installation?
A fuse box replacement is more than installing a new cabinet. The protection devices, circuit structure, labelling and future expandability all need to match the actual electrical installation.
Assessment of the existing setup
We review how the current distribution board is structured, which circuits exist and whether there are visible defects, temporary fixes or unclear additions.
Clear labelling
After the replacement, it should be clear which circuit controls which area or appliance. This makes daily use, troubleshooting, future extensions and inspections much easier.
Supply cable & building riser
A new distribution board can only work properly if the upstream electrical supply is suitable. That is why we check whether the supply cable, meter area and — in apartment buildings — the building riser fit the planned scope.
Preparation for future upgrades
If a new kitchen, air conditioning, EV charger, PV system, heat pump or smart home setup may be relevant later, we can plan spare capacity and structure the board accordingly.
RCDs, breakers & protection devices
Protection devices are selected and installed to match the electrical system. The goal is safety, a sensible circuit structure and easy operation in everyday use.
Testing & documentation
After the work is completed, the installation is tested and documented. This makes it clear what was done and how the new distribution board is structured.
When does it make sense to replace a fuse box?
A fuse box should not only be replaced when something has already stopped working. In many cases, replacement makes sense when the electrical system is outdated, unclear, poorly documented or no longer suitable for new appliances and extensions.
Old fuses or unclear labelling
If it is not clear which circuit controls which area, every fault diagnosis, repair or future extension becomes unnecessarily complicated.
Preparation for EV charger, PV or heat pump
Larger electrical loads need more than just a connection point. They require suitable protection devices, cable routing, circuit structure and enough space in the distribution board.
Renovation or remodelling
When walls are opened, a kitchen is moved or new circuits are planned, the distribution board is often a central part of reorganising the electrical system.
Rental, sale or electrical inspection
A clearly structured distribution board with proper labelling and documentation makes inspections, handovers and technical assessments much easier.
Missing or outdated RCD protection
If protection devices are missing, outdated or no longer suitable for the current setup, the electrical system should be checked and upgraded professionally.
Repeated tripping of breakers or RCDs
If breakers or RCDs trip repeatedly, the cause should be checked first. Sometimes a repair is enough; in other cases, a proper replacement is the better long-term solution.
Supply cable, building riser and fuse box — what is the difference?
In many older properties in Vienna, everything is simply called the “fuse box”. Technically, however, it is important to distinguish between the distribution board inside the apartment, the supply cable from the meter area and the building riser in the property.
Building riser
The building riser supplies several areas or apartments within a property. In apartment buildings, it often belongs to the shared electrical infrastructure and does not only affect one individual apartment.
Supply cable to the apartment
The supply cable connects the meter or main supply area with the distribution board inside the apartment. If it is old, undersized or not properly integrated, a new fuse box alone may not solve the underlying issue.
Fuse box / distribution board
The distribution board distributes electricity to the individual circuits and contains the protection and switching devices. This is where safety, clarity and future expandability become most visible in everyday use.
That is why we do not only look at the visible fuse box. We also assess the technical environment around it. This helps determine whether a straightforward replacement is enough or whether the supply cable, meter area or building installation should also be considered.
